Drug Uses

Evista is used to treat and prevent osteoporosis that sets in post menopause in women. Combine it with a diet rich in calcium and external sources of Vitamin D to get maximum benefits from the treatment.

How it is taken

Evista tablets must be taken once a day and the recommended dosage is 60mg. You may take it with or without a meal.

Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Evista then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

There have been no reports of an Evista Overdose. However, one must seek medical attention immediately if an overdose is suspected.

Warnings/Precautions
You may not be able to take the drug or may require special monitoring throughout the treatment if you currently have or have a history of- blood clots, stroke, cancer, increased triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood), or liver disease.

Evista is in the FDA pregnancy category X. So if you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Evista and contact your doctor immediately.

It is unknown whether Evista is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.

Possible Side Effects

Some of the common side effects of are hot flashes and leg cramps. This usually occurs in the first 6 months of treatment. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.

Other severe side effects include blood clots in veins with symptoms like leg pain or a feeling of warmth in the calves, swelling of the legs, hands or feet, sudden chest pain, shortness of breath or coughing up blood, sudden change in your vision, such as loss of vision or blurred vision. This may be extremely dangerous and You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
