Drug Uses

Zyban is used for helping to quit smoking. Patients who wish to quit smoking are given this medicine.

How Taken

Zyban can be taken orally. The general dosage is one tablet that is taken twice a day. You can take Zyban either on a full stomach or an empty one.  Do not chew, crush or divide Zyban. It is important that it should be taken whole.

Missed Dose.

If you miss a dose, try to take it as soon as possible. Do not take the dose if you are too close to your next dose, as overdosing on Zyban can have serious repercussions. Do not take a double dose, as even that may have repercussions on your health. Do not take more tablets than required, as you may increase your risk of having a seizure.

Overdose

You should seek medical attention if you suspect an overdose. Most important symptoms of an overdose are hallucinations, seizures, unconsciousness, faster heartbeats, heart attacks and weakness.
 

Warnings/Precautions
Zyban has some side effects on the human body if taken with some other medicines, main in case being oxidase inhibitor in the timeframe of fourteen days. Therefore, one should not take Zyban if they arre taking the inhibitor since the past fourteen day. Not adhering to this may cause some serious side effects. Zyban has been categorized as category 8 by the FDA. This means that it is not shown any adverse effects in animal reproduction tests, but it cannot be proved whether Zyban has any adverse effects on a pregnant or lactating woman.  There are no adverse effects or risks seen in women in the first trimester who have been taking the medicine, and no risk shown even in the later trimesters. Also, it is not known whether the drug passes into the breast milk nor not. Therefore, pregnant, lactating or women who are planning to become pregnant.

Possible Side Effects
All medicines have side effects, and one of the possible side effects with Zyban is hypertension and high blood pressure. The high blood pressure has been known to be severe when Zyban is taken along with other nicotine replacement therapies like nicotine patches. Also, if you have general problems with sleeping, you should take the medicine well before your sleeping time. Another side effect that is generally seen is skin rashes, hives, and difficulty in breathing. Shakiness is another type of side effect that is associated with this medicine. If you experience any of these side effects, inform your doctor immediately.
