Drug Uses

Bactroban cream is an antibacterial that is used to treat certain skin infections. However, it may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How it is taken

Completely wash and dry the area where you want to apply Bactroban cream and then gently apply a small amount of the cream. Rub the medicine gently distributing it evenly over the affected area. You may also cover the affected area with a gauze or a bandage.

Continue using Bactroban for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days. You should also wash your hands immediately after using the drug.

Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Bactroban, then you may apply it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not apply twicex to make up for the missed dose.

Storage

Store it at room temperature (between between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture. Keep away from pets and children.
 

Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, if you are treating a burn or open wound or if you have kidney problems,

If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then consult your doctor about the risks involved before using Bactroban.

It is unknown whether Bactroban is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.

Long term use of Bactroban can lead to a second infection. Inform your doctor if this occurs as your medication may need to be changed.

It is for external use only and you must avoid getting it in your eyes, nose or mouth.

Certain drugs can interact with Bactroban and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking, especially any of the following.

Use with utmost caution in children below 3 months of age.

Some of the common side effects of Bactroban are Burning, headache, nausea, stinging.

Other severe side effects include allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), severe irritation and itching.

You must seek medical attention immediately if this occurs.
