Drug Uses

Generic Imitrex are a serotonin 5-HT 1 receptor that is used for the treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura.

How it is taken

If you have migraine headaches, then use one tablet. In extreme cases, two tablets may be used. But the maximum dosage for a day should not exceed 200mg.

Drug Class & Mechanism

Migraine headaches are caused due to the dialation of blood vessels in the head. Imitrex constricts these blood vessels and helps relieve migraine headaches.

Missed Dosage

Since the drug is used only to relieve the pain of migraine headaches, use only when required or follow the dosage instructions of your doctor.

Storage

Store it at room temperature (between between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture. Keep away from pets and children.

Warnings/Precautions

Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, if you smoke, have high cholesterole or high blood pressure, diabetes.

You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or have Raynaud syndrome, have had strokes in the past, certain types of heart disease, transient ischemic attacks, uncontrolled blood pressure, peripheral vascular disease.

Possible Side Effects

Some of the common side effects of are nausea, drowsiness or dizziness, tingling, flushing, warmth, redness, or heaviness of a body part, unpleasant taste in the mouth (nasal spray), nasal irritation (nasal spray), or injection site discomfort (injection).

Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.

Other severe side effects include allergic reactions an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives), severe or prolonged chest pain or an irregular heartbeat, chest, jaw, or neck pain or tightness, sudden or severe stomach pain, problems seeing, or unusual weakness or numbness.

You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
