Calan is a calcium channel blocker that is used in the treatment of irregular heartbeats (supraventricular tachycardia), high blood pressure and angina (chest pain).
How it is taken
Swallow it whole with a glass of water. Continue to take the drug for the complete course of treatment even if you start feeling better in a few days. Do not stop taking it unless your doctor asks you to.
Drug Class & Mechanism
Calan is a calcium channel blocker that works by blocking the entry of calcium into the coronary arteries. This relaxes the arterial muscles and allows more blood to flow through them. This in turn reduces the blood pressure in the entire body and reduces the workload on the heart. Thus it prevents angina.
Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Calan, then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Storage
Store it at room temperature (between between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture.
