PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
How Taken
Zestril should be taken in the manner and doses prescribed by the doctor. It is better to take Zestril on a full stomach and after a meal.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose, unless you are too near the timeline of your next dose. Do not overdose, as it might cause some problems.
Overdose
You should seek for medical attention as soon as you suspect an overdose. Try to see if there are any of the general symptoms of an overdose, like fainting, lightheadedness, weakness and severe dizziness.
Warnings/Precautions
It is very important to inform your doctor or your pharmacist about any medical conditions that you have before taking Zestril. If you have any allergies to medicines, or even if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Zestril, you should inform your doctor immediately. Zestril is not recommended for people who have recurring heart problems, problems of blood like blood vessel problems and blood flow problems, or even problems of kidney, bone marrow or diabetes.
Other than that, if the patient has a history of stroke, kidney transplant, and recent heart attack or has an autoimmune disease or even low blood volume, it is suggested that you refrain from the drug.
Also, if the patient has a high blood potassium levels, or low blood potassium levels, or are on a low sodium diet, they should refrain from taking the drug. If the patient is on dialysis or is scheduled to have a major surgery, make sure that you inform the doctor about this, if the doctor is prescribing Zestril to you. If you are a woman of child bearing age, or are pregnant or even planning to become pregnant or breast feeding, there are chances that Zestril may cause birth defects. In some cases, Zestril is known to cause fetal death if it is taken while the patient is pregnant.
One of the serious side effects that can be caused due to Zestril is angioedema. Therefore, you should consult the doctor immediately if you notice swelling of the face, lips, eyes, throat, tongue or hands. If you experience a difficulty swallowing or breathing or even hoarseness, you should consult your doctor.
Zestril may not work well with people of some ethnicities. Make sure that you consult with your doctor before taking Zestril. If you have a history of angioedema, do not take Zestril. If the angioedema is caused due to treatment with an ACE inhibitor, or even if the patient is a child who has severe kidney problems.
Due to the dehydration, vomiting and excessive sweating or diarrhea, the risk of low blood pressure increases. You need to contact your doctor if you experience any of these instances. If you are using a salt substitute or a product with potassium in it, you should consult your doctor before taking a drug like Zestril. If you are receiving any kind of urgent medical care, dental care or surgery, inform your doctor about it. Zestril may also affect the blood sugar. If the patient has high blood pressure, do not use non description products that may contain stimulants. Zestril should not be used for children less than six years old, and should be used with care in the case of mature and elderly patients.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Cough, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, tiredness. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the hands, eyes, mouth, face, lips, or tongue, hoarseness), chest pain, dark urine, decreased urination, difficulty swallowing, infection, irregular or slow heartbeat, stomach pain (with or without nausea or vomiting), symptoms of low blood pressure (e.g., fainting, severe dizziness, lightheadedness), yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Zestril has some side effects attached to its usage. The most common are cough, diarrhea, dizziness, headache and tiredness. If you have any of these side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
