Drug Uses
Lozol is a non-thiazide sulphonamide diuretic that is used for the treatment of hypertension and swelling caused due to fluid retention in the body.
How it is taken
Lozol must be taken by mouth with food to avoid an upset stomach. Lozol may cause an increase in the amount and the frequency of urination. This may affect your sleep so take the last dose of the drug before 6pm. The best way to use the drug is as recommended by your doctor.
Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Lozol then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
A Lozol overdose may lead to nausea, vomiting and weakness. Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect an overdose.
Warnings/Precautions
Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, if you have heart, liver or kidney disease, or have low levels of sodium or potassium in your body, if you have gout or lupus.
You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or if you are unable to urinate or have problems urinating or if you are taking ketanserin.
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Lozol and contact your doctor immediately.
It is unknown whether Lozol is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.
Certain drugs can interact with Lozol and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking.
If your doctor has prescribed a potassium supplement to you, then keep taking it according to the prescribed dosage. Do not exceed or change your diet to a high potassium one.
Lozol may affect your blood sugar level. Contact your doctor immediately if these symptoms occur.
Ensure that you inform your doctor and your dentist about Lozol before receiving any form of medical treatment or dental treatment or emergency surgery.
Lozol may make you more sensitive to the sun so please avoid the sun, sunlamps or a tanning booth until you know how your body reacts to the drug. If you cannot avoid going out in the sun for a long while, then wear protective clothing or use a proper sunscreen.
Periodic lab tests including electrolyte levels may be recommended to monitor your health while taking the drug. Ensure that you do not miss any lab tests.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of are back pain, diarrhea, dizziness or lightheadedness when sitting up or standing, headache, infection, nervousness, pain, runny nose, trouble sleeping, upset stomach. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.
Other severe side effects include allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), chest pain, drowsiness, fatigue, irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps, numbness of your hands or feet, pounding in the chest, rapid heartbeat, unusual tiredness, urination problems, weakness, yellowing of the skin or eyes.
You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
