Drug Uses
Lotensin is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used for the treatment of high blood pressure in combination with other medicines.
How it is taken
Lotensin can be taken by mouth with or without food. The best way to use Lotensin is as recommended by your doctor. Ensure that you maintain a schedule for taking the drug and that you drink plenty of fluids. Lack of fluids can lead to symptoms like excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting can lead to lightheadedness or fainting.
Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Lotensin then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Warnings/Precautions
Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, have ever had liver or kidney problems, kidney transplantation, or diabetes, if you have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus), scleroderma or a collagen vascular disease (ask your doctor if you are not sure), bone marrow suppression, low blood counts, low blood pressure, low blood sodium, high blood potassium, or narrowing or hardening of the arteries of the brain, or are dehydrated, if you are scheduled to have surgery or to receive anesthesia or kidney dialysis.
You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or are pregnant (after the 3rd month).
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using and contact your doctor immediately.
Certain drugs can interact with Lotensin and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking.
Lotensinis secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.
Lotensin may affect your blood sugar level and may make you feel confused, drowsy, or thirsty. Contact your doctor immediately if these symptoms occur.
Lotensin should not be used in children younger than 6 years of age as the safety and effectiveness of the drug have not been confirmed yet.
Ensure that you inform your doctor and your dentist about Lotensin before receiving any form of medical treatment or dental treatment or emergency surgery.
Periodic lab tests may be recommended to monitor your health while taking the drug. Ensure that you do not miss any lab tests.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of are cough, dizziness, especially upon standing, headache, nausea, sleepiness, tiredness. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.
Other severe side effects include allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), chest pain, chills, fainting, fever, hoarseness, irregular or slow heartbeat, lightheadedness, sore throat, unusual stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes.
You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
