Drug Uses
Aldactone is a potassium sparing diuretic that works by blocking the hormone aldosterone. It reduces the amount of fluid in your body without causing the loss of potassium. It is used primarily for the treatment of edema (swelling), hypertension (high blood pressure) and hyperaldosteronism (a hormonal disorder).
How it is taken
Aldactone comes in a tablet form that must be taken daily once with a meal or twice with breakfast or lunch. The best way to take is as recommended by your doctor.
Aldactone is used to maintain blood pressure levels and not cure it. So you must continue to take it even if you experience relief after some time until asked to discontinue by your doctor.
Overdose
Some of the typical symptoms of an Aldactone overdose include drowsiness, mental confusion, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or diarrhea. You should seek medical attention immediately if you suspect an overdose.
Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Aldactone, then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
