Accupril

Drug Uses
Accupril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used for lowering high blood pressure and managing heart failure.

How it is taken
The best way to take Accupril is as recommended by your doctor. You may also check dosage instructions on the product label.
Accupril is taken by mouth after a couple of hours after eating. You may also take it with a light meal. Avoid high fat meals because it reduces the absorption of the drug into your bloodstream.
If you are taking drugs like tetracyclines (eg, doxycycline) or fluoroquinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin), then take them at least 3 to 4 hours after you take Accupril because the magnesium content in these drugs can interfere with the absorption of these drugs.

Drug Class & Mechanism
Accupril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor which works by relaxing blood vessels and helps in lowering blood pressure.

Missed Dosage
If you miss a dose of Accupril, then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Storage
Store it at room temperature (between between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture. Keep away from pets and children. 

Warnings/Precautions
You must not use Accupril if you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug, you are in the second or third trimester of pregnancy, you have an allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, throat and tongue) to treatment by ACE inhibitors.
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Accupril. It is unknown whether Accupril is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.
Accupril increases your chances of being sunburned and you must avoid the sun, sunlamps or tanning booths until you learn how your body reacts to the drug. If you are venturing out into the sun, then wear protective clothing or use a sunscreen.
Drugs containing magnesium can interact with Accupril and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking.
If you notice Dehydration, excessive sweating, vomiting, and diarrhea, then seek medical attention.
Mention to your doctor before you receive any dental care, emergency care or surgery.
Periodic lab tests may be recommended to monitor your health while taking the drug.

Possible Side Effects
Common side effects include chest pain, coughing, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, nausea, persistent, dry cough, tiredness and vomiting
You may seek medical attention if these symptoms become bothersome.
In extreme cases, there can be a severe allergic reaction showing symptoms like rash, hives, itching, tightness in the chest, difficulty in breathing, swelling on the face, mouth and lips, severe stomach pain, palpitation, slow heart beat, fainting, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, vomiting and yellowing of the skin or eyes and stomach pains. Seek medical attention immediately if these side effects occur.
