Drug Uses
Plan B is a progestin that is used to prevent a pregnancy in women who have had unprotected sexual intercourse or suspect that their birth control pill might have failed. However, please note that it must not be used as a routine birth control measure and it cannot be used for abortion.
How it is taken
The first pill of Plan B must be taken within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. The sooner you take it the better. The second tablet must be taken within 12 hours after taking the first dose.
The best way to use the drug is as recommended by your doctor. You may take this at any time during the menstrual cycle.
Drug Uses and Mechanism
Plan B is used to prevent pregnancy in women who have had unprotected sex.
Missed Dosage
Plan B is taken only when required. So if you miss a dose of Plan B, then contact your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store it at room temperature (between between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in an air tight container protecting it from direct exposure to light, heat and moisture. Keep away from pets and children.
Warnings/Precautions
Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, diabetes, possible pregnancy, unusual vaginal bleeding, allergies (especially to birth control pills).
You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it.
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using and contact your doctor immediately as it will not stop an existing pregnancy.
Plan B is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.
Contact your doctor immediately if your periods have been delayed for more than a week.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, breast tenderness, tiredness and weakness, headache, menstrual changes, and diarrhea. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.
Other severe side effects include low stomach/abdominal pain.
You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
