Cipro

Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Cipro, if you have Alzheimer disease, a brain or nervous system disorder, a problem with the blood vessels in your brain, diarrhea, a stomach infection, liver problems, kidney problems, increased pressure in your brain, seizures, inflammation of your tendons, joint problems, or a skin sensitivity to the sun.

may cause drowsiness. These effects get aggravated if you take it with alcohol or certain other medications (sleep aids, muscle relaxers). So, do not drive or perform other potentially hazardous tasks until you know how your body reacts to the drug.

You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or have recently received a live, oral typhoid vaccination or you are taking cisapride or tizanidine.

Avoid taking it with milk or milk products by themselves.

Avoid large amounts of food or drink that have caffeine (eg, coffee, tea, cocoa, and cola, chocolate). Rest and avoid exercise until further instruction from your doctor if you experience pain or swelling of a tendon.

Cipro is an antibiotic. It is not effective for treating viral infections (e.g., the common cold).

Prolonged usage can lead to a second infection. Consult your doctor immediately if signs of a second infection appear. You may require a dosage modification or a change of medication to cure this.

If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using and contact your doctor immediately.

Certain drugs can interact with and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking.

Cipro is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.

Cipro should not be used in children as the safety and effectiveness of the drug have not been confirmed yet.

Cipro may make you more sensitive to the sun so please avoid the sun, sunlamps or a tanning booth until you know how your body reacts to the drug. If you cannot avoid going out in the sun for a long while, then wear protective clothing or use a proper sunscreen.

Periodic lab tests including blood sugar levels may be recommended to monitor your health while taking the drug. Ensure that you do not miss any lab tests.

It has been noted that children are more sensitive to the side effects of the drug. They might need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring throughout the treatment.

If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Cipro while you are pregnant. Cipro is found in breast milk. Do not breast–feed while taking Cipro. Some medicines may interact with Cipro. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Cipro if you have recently received a live, oral typhoid vaccination or you are taking cisapride or tizanidine. Avoid taking Cipro with milk or milk products (such as yogurt or calcium–enriched juice) by themselves. However, taking Cipro as part of a full meal that contains milk or milk products is permitted. Long–term or repeated use of Cipro may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this. Cipro only works against bacteria, it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold). Avoid large amounts of food or drink that have caffeine (eg, coffee, tea, cocoa, and cola, chocolate). If you are a diabetic, check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor before you change the dose of your diabetes medicine. Cipro may cause you to become sunburned more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to Cipro. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of Cipro. Caution is advised when using Cipro in children. They may be more sensitive to its effects, especially joint and tendon problems.

Some of the possible side effects of Cipro are Anxiety, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, nightmares, rash, stomach upset, vision changes, vomiting. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.

Other severe side effects include allergic reactions, agitation, bloody or pale stools, chest pain, convulsions, dark urine, depression, easy bruising or bleeding, fever, hallucinations, increased pressure within the head, inflammation, pain, or rupture of a tendon, irregular heartbeat, joint pain or swelling, loss of consciousness, mental changes, nervousness, oral thrush, persistent sore throat, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, seizures, stomach cramps/pain, suicidal thoughts, sun sensitivity, weakness of arms and legs, tremors, vaginal yeast infection, yellowing of the skin or eyes.

You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
