PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Drug Uses
Luvox is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant and is used to treat obsessive–compulsive disorder, depression and other conditions.
How it is taken
Luvox must be taken by mouth with food to avoid an upset stomach. The best way to use the drug is as recommended by your doctor.
Ensure that you take it at the same time each day for the entire duration of the course.
Overdose
Some of the typical symptoms of a Luvox overdose are nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, lack of coordination, trouble breathing, drowsiness, fainting, and coma.
Warnings/Precautions
Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, if you have liver disease, seizures or epilepsy, bipolar disorder (manic depression), or a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts.
You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or are pregnant especially, the third trimester or have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor (eg, phenelzine) within the last 14 days.
If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Luvox and contact your doctor immediately.
It is unknown whether Luvox is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.
Certain drugs can interact with Luvox and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking.
Luvox should be used with extreme caution in children between 8 to 18 years of age as the safety and effectiveness of the drug have not been confirmed yet. Do not use it in children below 8 years of age.
Ensure that you inform your doctor and your dentist about Luvox before receiving any form of medical treatment or dental treatment or emergency surgery.
Luvox can increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors in some children and teenagers. This risk may be higher in individuals with bipolar illness (also called manic–depressive illness), a family history of bipolar illness, or a history of attempting suicide.
You should pay close attention to the patient’s changes in moods or actions, especially if changes occur suddenly. Contact your doctor right away if any of the following effects occur or worsen- depression, anxiety, restlessness or irritability, panic attacks, thoughts or attempts of suicide, or other unusual changes in behavior or mood.
It has been noted that elderly patients are more sensitive to the side effects of the drug. They might need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring throughout the treatment.
Possible Side Effects
Some of the common side effects of are change in taste, changes in sexual function, chills, constipation, delayed ejaculation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, flu–like symptoms, flushing, frequent urination, gas, headache, impotence, inability to have an orgasm, indigestion, lightheadedness, loss of appetite, nausea, nervousness, sweating, tiredness, tooth disorder, vomiting, weakness. Please contact your doctor if the symptoms persist or become bothersome.
Other severe side effects include allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), bizarre behavior, difficulty swallowing, fast heartbeat, fever, impulsive behavior or other unusual changes in behavior, mental or mood changes (eg, agitation, panic, hostility, irritability), pounding in the chest, seizures, severe nervousness or anxiety, severe restlessness, sleeplessness, suicidal thoughts or behaviors, tremor, vision problems, worsening of depression.
You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
