Drug Uses

Claritin is an antihistamine that is used to treat the symptoms of hay fever and other allergies like sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. It may also be used to cure skin infections and allergies in people.

How it is taken

Claritin comes as a tablet to take orally in 2 different dosage strengths. The 12 hour pill is taken twice a day and the 24 hour one is taken once. The pill is to be swallowed whole with a glass of water without crushing or chewing.

Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Claritin, then you may take it as soon as you remember and adjust the remaining doses accordingly. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose then you may skip this dose and continue with the regular dosage. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
 

At times Claritin may cause drowsiness. These effects get aggravated if you take it with alcohol or certain other medications (sleep aids, muscle relaxers). So, do not drive or perform other potentially hazardous tasks until you know how your body reacts to the drug.

Some of the common side effects of are difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips/ tongue/face, hives, irregular heartbeat, seizures, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, dry mouth, dry skin/itchiness, discoloration of urine.

You must seek medical attention immediately if any of these side effects occur.
